Billing and Insurance
We are happy to announce that as of 4/1/18, Bay Radiology is now in network with United Healthcare. We are still waiting to hear back from Aetna (more details below).
Our office is credentialed with most insurance plans; please see the list below of insurance companies with which we currently participate. If your insurance is not listed, please contact the office to verify that our office participates with your insurance plan prior to your appointment. A copy of your health insurance card is required at each scheduled visit. Failure to bring your insurance card could result in having to cancel your appointment or self-pay for that date of service. Our front desk staff is available to assist with any questions you may have about your insurance; however, we do not know the details of the insurance plan that you have chosen. If you have questions about benefits and covered services, please call the member services number on the back of your insurance card prior to your scheduled appointment.

Many insurance plans now cover 3D mammography (tomosynthesis). Since in January 2018, all insurers originating in Maryland are required to cover 3D if it is deemed medically necessary by the treating physician. Unfortunately, this does not cover federal plans. We are currently NOT participating with: Aetna, Empire Plan of NY, Kaiser, Medicaid, and most Medicare Advantage plans.
Special note about Aetna: even while negotiations are underway, patients with Aetna as their insurance can still be seen at Bay Radiology but they will be asked to pay our self-pay rates up front. We will provide the report and CPT and ICD-10 codes needed for you to submit for reimbursement. Plans vary widely in their out of network coverage but many cover out of network expenses at 80%. Please contact Aetna if you have questions about your coverage.
We require 2 business days’ notice for canceling appointments so that we can offer these appointments to other patients. We charge a $75 fee for no-shows or if an appointment is canceled with less than 2 business days’ notice.
There is a charge of $12 for a DVD of images and copies of reports if they are picked up at our office and $15 for a DVD and reports if they are mailed from our facility.
For patients who do not have insurance or for whom we are out of network, our self pay rates are:
Screening or diagnostic mammogram: $230
3D (aka tomosynthesis) if not covered by insurance: $79
Targeted breast ultrasound: $125
Complete/screening breast ultrasound: $200
Ultrasound-guided cyst aspiration: $175
Ultrasound-guided core breast biopsy: $840
Stereotactic or tomosynthesis-guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsy: $840
All office visits not being submitted to insurance are payable at the time of service. We accept cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. Please contact our billing office if you have any financial questions or concerns. Out of network patients: please note that many patients may be able to submit to reclaim 80% of this amount. Please contact your insurance company directly to discuss your specific plan.
